چکیده

Abstract Purpose for Review Sleep deprivation and insomnia are associated with mortality morbidity worldwide. A pharmacological agent that improves subjective objective measures of sleep, without significant side effects, remains nebulous. However, initial randomised controlled trials suggest Prunus cerasus (tart cherry) ingestion may be beneficial. This systematic review meta-analysis evaluates the effect on sleep. Recent Findings We identified a total 277 unique records, from which 8 studies low-moderate methodological quality were included in review. Meta-analysis subjectively recalled sleep efficiency (SE) time (TST) not significant. Objective SE, however, was significantly higher cherry cohort when compared to placebo an size 0.63 (95% CI 0.29–0.97, P < 0.01). There low heterogeneity ( I 2 = 0%). TST cohorts, pooled 1.21 0.83–1.58, high 81.5%). Summary Whilst individuals experience benefit, there is evidence support improvements using measures. Tart next frontier medicine warrants further research.

Novel antioxidant compounds from tart cherries (Prunus cerasus).

As indicated by an Fe(II)-induced liposome peroxidation bioassay, the EtOAc extract of tart cherries (Prunus cerasus) was found to have strong antioxidant activity. Purification of this extract afforded chlorogenic acid methyl ester (1) and three novel compounds, 2-hydroxy-3-(o-hydroxyphenyl) propanoic acid (2); 1-(3', 4'-dihydroxycinnamoyl)-cyclopenta-2,5-diol (3), and 1-(3', 4'-dihydroxycinna...

Detection and quantification of the antioxidant melatonin in Montmorency and Balaton tart cherries (Prunus cerasus).

The antioxidant melatonin was recently identified in a variety of edible plants and seeds in high concentrations. In plants, as in animals, melatonin is believed to function as a free radical scavenger and possibly in photoperiodism. In this study, melatonin was detected and quantified in fresh-frozen Balaton and Montmorency tart cherries (Prunus cerasus) using high-performance liquid chromatog...
